An ex stammeredThis article is written by an ex-stutterer (shivkant gupta ) and nearly 10 years after the day he started his self-treatment, he noticed that, he is 100% free (compared to a 45% grade stammerer some years ago) from stuttering. 1. The main causes of initial stammer area. Shyness (in all the activities) b. Loss of self-confidence in speaking and all other areas c. (Fear in speaking)/(giving over respect) to elders or strangers or respectable persons, that in turn making more inferior. d. Experiencing mental (sometimes due to physical) stress, which is not out told by us? Normally this is caused to children of all ages by parents (unknowingly) or instructors, who cares more in the child's study, speech mode and tone. e. Imitating the stammering voice playfully (this is the most dangerous for children, for adults this wont have noticeable effect) 2. The main causes of stammer to grow to its extreme area. stammerer starts giving more attention to the next word what he/she speaks. This gradually increases the fear that each of the next word may have a shutter in the mouth. Which gradually unknowingly increases the stammer vocabulary in the brain. b. In case of children, he/she may experience teases over them by the fellow children. Which will surely create depression in them and in turn increases the stammer. c. In classrooms, some instructors don’t allow students having stammer, to read oral exercises. May be the student likes this, since he/she can escape from the stammer at that moment. This has various side effects. (1) It will indirectly/unknowingly make depression in the minds of the student that they are neglected (this neglection, not only happens in reading oral exercises, but in all other events.). Since I had this same experience in my school and college days. (2) It is actually avoiding a good treatment for the student. Actually schools should have arrangements for these stammers to increase self-confidence, removing fear to speak with strangers or elders and respectable people. d. When a person shows pity actions on the stammerer, when the stammerer is having a shutter talk with the person; surely the stammerer experiences heavy shy and depression and starts to have more fears towards speaking. e. A stammerer is practicing or asked to practice negative treatments during is stammered speech. Negative treatments includes (1) Take a breath before you say the word if you think you're going to stutter on it (2) Stop and start over if you stutter (3) Put your tongue on the roof of your mouth (4) Don't speak unless you can speak correctly (5) Watch your speech all the time (6) Do anything to keep from stuttering (7) try to avoid or skip words or letters that tends to shutter (8) to talk very slowly (9) spend long lonely times in your home. All these will increase the tendency to stammer more. So he gave very simple treatments. Those treatments to give BRAVENES to speak to anybody 1.Take your pocket notebook ((self-hypnotizing (brainwashing)/(thought-molding) technique)) : Open a best-viewed page. Write down sentences that increase your self-confidence, that get rid off fear of speaking (somebody wont feel this (as a) fear. but this fear towards speaking is hidden in the inner minds). The sentences should be like a.I am the best boy/girl. b.I am the handsome/beautiful person than any others. c.I can readily speak before anybody at any place without hesitation, shy or fear. d.I am having an attractive speaking voice than any body. e.There is no rule in this world to be polite or to give respect to all the elders or strangers that we face. (Yes, this seems to be more awkward. but such an extreme superior-complexion is needed for people with stammer, to get reed from it) f.I must participate in all the social and academic events and but not to worry about failures. g.I WILL NOT GET ANGRY AT ANY CASE. I WILL BE ALWAYS COOL, COOL, AND COOL. (Very very important) (And such enthusiastic sentences) Read these sentences many times each day with full involvement. This is a self-hypnotizing (brainwashing)/(thought-molding) technique, which will have good effects on the way we approach every thing in this world. Then only, we will realize what we are doing so far, which is abnormal and what should be done is normal. 2. Be bold. Just think that all the others who we are talking with are just human beings like us. (Just think / note about weak areas / things of the opponent to whom you are speaking [don’t expose it outside]). And start talking to any body. 3. Accept, (stammer will interrupt your speech). This is the situation, you will slip again. To avoid this, don’t hear anybody's speech from outside world. Just thing (at that moment) that you are talking to a small boy, and continue the speech, you will be in a nervous mood at these minutes. So while continuing the talk itself, try to cool down yourself as possible. 4. Neglect Negatives: Many people will have tendency to laugh (spontaneously) or at least smile, on seeing stammered voice from us. Or some may possess little more hard tendency to tease [imitating the stammered voice itself]. This normally found in children. JUST NEGLECT THEM, THEIR ACTIVITIES, continue your speech WITH "SMILING AT THEM" (NEVER GET ANGRY). 5. Find Initial Cause: Try your level best to find out the basic reasons that caused your initial stammers. For that read books related to 'cause of stammer' so that you can identify the root. As many scientists agree, once you find it, you are half cured. 6. Never hesitate to proclaim that you are a stammerer, and never hesitate to speak a shuttered speech. (actually avoiding or skipping or [finding alternative words for] shutter-suspicious words,{ I totally stopped talking to strangers and elders and started writing in paper to convey any information to them [in my extreme stage of stammer] } are the root cause of growth of extreme shuttering). so as a shutterer/stammerer (nothing to be sighed in saying so), after realising and proclaiming it, there is no need to pretend as a non-shuterer when speaking. be bold from the heart to speak all forms of shuttered sentence. 7. Increase your friend circle (be careful to have good friends only). do lot of (loud) arguments with each of them or in-group. 8. STRANGERS. never never hesitate to ask anything or talk to STRANGERS. if you starts worrying about, 'how will I speak to this stranger and [what will he think] or [what will he do] or [I will get ashamed] if I starts stammering'. (this worry will be a natural for all stammerers). JUST STOP. you have to turn your thought in another way like 'that STRANGER standing in front of me is a bloody guy. he can’t do anything on me. I can even hit him and scold him like anything. look at the silly guy standing in front of me...' like that. (sorry for using bad words). BUT THAT IS WHAT REALLY NEEDED. think like that before speaking to a stranger or any other. it will make your speaking approach more superior in total we should do all sort of things to drive away the hidden or exposed shyness and fearless in you, to speak. 9. change your current resident place: you can try to change your current resident place where you are staying for a long time to totally a new place (better far away). It can have positive affect on speech. 10. Once again, never think or feel that, u r having stammer (or try to avoid thinking or worrying about your stammering speech). use the 'notebook-technique' (that I have mentioned in my passage) to remove the inferiority complex that is hidden in you (surely you cant feel the complex in you). always thing that 'I am the bravest', 'no body can hit me', 'I am having the best speaking capability, as if any worldly leaders are having or had'. (never try to imitate any body). as if many researchers say, we have to self-hypnotise our self to improve our self-confidence. Stammer tends to occur more when the body is physically week and which is a normal one. There may be many causes for accruing a stammer in our voice. It has been discovered that, it might be mainly due to the indirect mental stress imposed on one, by loving parents and family. 1.If you are weak in studies, you are compared with some of your friends who are good studies. 2.When you are very little encouraged by your parents in various activities such as your singing capability, painting and carving capability and are not advised or encouraged to participate in social and academic events and games. (that in turn (might) self-discouraged in your inner hearts (unknowingly)) 3.Neglection of your initial stammer by your parents and you during the initial times and some of the negative treatments given above which are asked to practice during earlier times. NOW, nearly 5 years after I started my self-treatment, I am happy to say that, I am 98% free (compared to a 45% grade stammerer some years ago). I make used all the above-specified treatments (that my friend told). I didn’t practice them as a treatment; rather I slowly injected into my everyday life directly or indirectly. 1.I tried my level best to get reed of my hometown for my higher studied for various reasons. One of the main reasons is that I wanted to SPEAK to new people. 2.I purposely made to travel to distant places. So surely I need to talk to various strangers. 3. I engaged myself in some stage performance. Really stage performance will give anybody a good experience in tolerance and fluency. 4.I purposely became more talkative than before. I started arguing or talking to my friends and strangers in a little louder voice. It helped me a lot in improving the quality of my speech. My Definition: "Shuttering can be defined as a bad habit which caused by either the person or his/her environment [and/or] a mild hereditary [and/or] mild psychological imbalance (which can have causes due to physical health) all that affects the muscles in our throat, mouth, face and even all parts of our body especially during speaking." Surely it is a full self-exercise, just like beautifying a bad handwriting. experts and therapists can only tell the ways to follow to get cured. surely it will take a long time, may extend to years to make the shutter to an extinct level. And it could be done to its best through only building self-confidence, all-sorts-of-bravery, language-vocabulary to its extreme. one should develop ones own superiority complex. Surely in the curing session, it will take more than a month to get in full-fledge practice and may be years (2 to 5) to get cured. be also careful about your any change in basic behavior, due to all these slow psychological practices. During my peak of stuttering days, I have wondered on all other fluent speakers about 'how are they speaking in such a fluent manner'. the surprising thing is that I was a good fluent speaker some 10 years ago. even then I had such thoughts during my extreme stammering days. Basically I am neither a doctor in this subject nor a speech therapist. I am telling these things all out of my self-experience and readings. frankly speaking, I didn't have any therapist's advice. I found the cause of normal stammer is very basic and simple. but there may be also other physical reasons for this, that I am not that much aware (like some problems in our throat) which I hope to be very rare.
